They sounded pleasant enough, but I'd never call them a "warm-up act." I literally fell asleep during every song.On Sunset is the fifteenth studio album by English singer-songwriter Paul Weller. Opening was a folky trio called The Villagers. But I was particularly blown away by "My Ever Changing Moods" - a thirty-year-old song that seemed like kind of an airy trifle when it was new, but which sounded fresh and energetic on stage. "Start!" really got the audience revved up I got the impression it was kind of a surprise to most folks there. And even on the ballads, the band's energy level never flagged (which is more than I can say for myself, after two concert nights in a row). The light show was good, and the sound quality was crystal clear, even on the more raucous numbers. Weller himself was in fine voice, and looks really fit, too. His backing band (guitar, bass, drums, percussion and keyboards) played with a loose groove that never got sloppy. Last night was my first experience seeing Paul Weller live, and I'm glad to say he didn't let me down - not by a long stretch.
